Some of our 2015 accomplishments:

• 2015 Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund ($13,318) Bought many truckloads of food, blankets, medical supplies, and tents. These were transported & delivered to devastated villages by the monks from the Porong Pelmo Choeding (Bodong) Monastery in Kathmandu.
• 2nd phase of the Clean Stove Project completed ($5,500) Delivered and installed ventilated cookstoves in Zurpin & Teckshe villages in Arunachal Pradesh, India.
• Jampaling Tibetan Settlement cheese factory in Pokhara, Nepal ($2,000)
• Provided monthly support for elderly poor people in AP, India ($6,500)
• General Fund for medical care & education in rural Nepal ($567)

3 Reasons to support TBCA projects:

The Clean Stove Project

The Problem:

The Solution:

TBCA  funded the development of  efficient, ventilated cookstoves designed to be compatible with local  needs and  customs. They were manufactured in a village called Lumla in Arunachal Pradesh, India. In 2014, the first  37 ventilated stoves were delivered and installed in the 37 huts that constitute the villages of Yabab and  Sherbang. In 2015, 38 stoves were delivered and installed in the villages of Zurpin & Teckshe.

The Results:

 decreased number of smoke related childhood deaths, significant reduction  in   smoke  related  diseases, improved  and    more  efficient cooking,   less deforestation, and  smokeless homes.

We are now ready to complete the manufacture, delivery, and  installation of  101 more life-saving, environmentally efficient stoves. Khokhim village needs 47 stoves, and  Muktor village needs 54 stoves. Each stove costs $150 to manufacture, deliver, and  install. We still need $10,950 to complete this next phase of  this project.

Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund

On April 25, 2015, a series of devastating earthquakes brought Nepal to its knees. Tremors continued for months thereafter. By September,  the death toll  had  reached nearly 9,000  people.   Hundreds  of   thousands  have been left  homeless and  without proper shelter, injured and  without medical help, hungry and thirsty,  without  basic  supplies,  and    almost without hope.

 

Thanks to the generous donations made by many compassionate people worldwide, TBCA  was able  to send $13,177 to help support the Earthquake Relief Fund directed by Geshe Pema Dorjee and  carried out by the monks of  the Porong Pelmo Choeding Monastery in Kathmandu. During  the days  and  months following the initial shocks, these monks delivered truckloads of  supplies to villages where no other help was  available. They brought medical supplies, blankets, food, tents, and  other necessities.  The  roads  were  broken  or  non- existent, the conditions were miserable, yet they worked tirelessly and  compassionately to help the sick, injured, homeless, and  frightened.

Despite political turmoil and  difficult conditions, we are able  to deliver 100% of   all donations to this  project. This October, we will travel to Nepal to document our help so far and  to assess  the current needs. There is still much to do, but the funds have run  out.

In June 2013, we were fortunate to have had  the opportunity to sponsor a much needed 3-day  Mobile Eye Care Project in Arunachal Pradesh, an isolated and  distant Himalayan area in Northeastern India.  The mobile unit  was led  by  ophthalmologists, Dr.  Lobsang Tsetim and  Dr.  Yube.  They, along with technicians and  an  optical unit  from the RK Mission Hospital, traveled to this remote region because it is devoid of  eye care services.
They provided free and  comprehensive eye care. During those three days,  678 people were screened, 290 prescription  glasses were issued, and  25 cataract operations with intraocular lens implants were performed as well as 4 other surgical procedures.

TBCA  is happy to announce that  we will be supporting this worthy humanitarian project again this  year. The 2015 Mobile Eye Care Project  will include some general medical care, and  the mobile unit  will reach villages that  have never had  any  health care. It has taken a lot  of  planning, including the obtaining of  government permissions due to the remoteness of  the destination.

The 2015 Mobile Eye Care Project is scheduled to take place in Autumn 2015. The total cost of  the project will be $3,869.29. Thanks to the generosity of  one particular donor, all we need to raise  now is $2,300 to completely fund this project.
