The First Noble Truth: the truth of duhkha
- Duhkha refers to unsatisfactory conditions and suffering.
- The 3 types of duhkha:
- 1. the duhkha of pain
- 2. the duhkha of change
- 3. pervasive duhkha of conditioning (especially grasping at inherent existence)
The Second Noble Truth: the origin of duhkha
- The 2 causes of duhkha:
- 1. disturbing emotions and mental afflictions (especially ignorance
and craving) - 2. polluted actions that result in karma
The Third Noble Truth: cessation of duhkha
- Cessation of afflictions, their origins, and polluted karma.
- Liberation
- Nirvana
The Fourth Noble Truth: the path to cessation of duhkha
- The path emphasizes the Wisdom realizing the Emptiness of “inherent existence” of persons and phenomena.
